Support improvements to pedestrian safety: 40 km/h zone needed for Canterbury Road

Support improvements to pedestrian safety: 40 km/h zone needed for Canterbury Road Main Image

Over recent months I have been in regular discussion with local residents and representatives from the Surrey Hills Primary School community and the Florence Road Preschool community about the need for a
40-km/h school speed zone on Canterbury Road between The Avenue and Balmoral Crescent in Surrey Hills.

This section of road experiences heavy traffic, particularly around school pick-up and dropoff times.

Many Surrey Hills residents have expressed to me their desire to see this measure put in place to improve safety for students and families.

Following an investigation by the Department of Transport earlier this year, the Minister for Roads, Melissa Horne, has confirmed her support to implement this change.

I am now working with the Minister’s office to confirm a timeline for its implementation and look forward to sharing some good news soon.

Thank you to everyone in the Surrey Hills community who has been advocating for this change and for your ongoing help.

In the meantime, I invite you as well as any interested resident to sign this petition as an expression of  support that I would like to present to the Minister.
